A Better Colgate: Better Transparency, Better Accountability, Better Alumni Participation

Greetings!

This is just a short note to thank you for your interest in our efforts to reform governance at Colgate University.

We still believe that Colgate can be one of America’s great universities. But that requires both alumni participation and transparency by the trustees and administration.  Allowing alumni to directly elect a meaningful number of trustees will ensure the accountability that donors, students and their parents deserve.

I’m excited about my new role as chairman of A Better Colgate.  It’s a natural continuation from my undergraduate years as a math tutor, member of the varsity softball and field hockey teams and rush chairman for Gamma Phi Beta.  And after graduation, I remained involved as an officer of my sorority House Corporation Board, a multiple reunion attendee, and currently Class Agent.

We’d like to thank Todd Buchner for leading A Better Colgate over the last year where he directed the effort to make alumni aware of their opportunity to serve on the Alumni Council through the petitioning process.  He ensured we had a voice with President Jeffrey Herbst when he officially took office in the summer of 2010.  Todd will remain on the Board of A Better Colgate.

Next month, members of the Board of Directors of A Better Colgate will meet in Chicago. We’ll work out the details of both a short-term and long-term plan.

Your ideas and comments are greatly appreciated.
